Brazil to show FIFA that World Cup prep on track

AP, Monday 7 May 2012

The first encounter between Brazil's sports minister, Aldo Rebelo, and Secretary General Jerome Valcke will be on Tuesday

Brazilian officials are heading to Switzerland to show FIFA preparations for the 2014 World Cup are on track and that the government has finally put behind a spat it had with Secretary General Jerome Valcke.

The meeting to discuss World Cup preparations Tuesday at FIFA's headquarters will mark the first encounter between Brazil's sports minister, Aldo Rebelo, and Valcke, whose harsh remarks against Brazil earlier this year ignited a crisis between the host country and soccer's governing body.

Rebelo says ''we are in the process of re-establishing the cooperation that we feel is important'' to guarantee the World Cup in Brazil is a success.

Rebelo says he hopes the meeting will help ease some of FIFA's concerns regarding Brazil's preparations for soccer's showcase event.
