Real Madrid striker Cristiano Ronaldo announced Sunday that there are ongoing complications between him and the royal club.
The 27-year-old Portuguese forward scored his first two La Liga goals of the season during Real’s 3-0 win over Granada on Sunday. He refused to celebrate the goals before he was substituted due to injury in the 63 minute, but his statements after the match are what made him at the focus of attention.
"I didn't celebrate the goals because I'm upset. It's about a professional matter and the club knows what it is,” Ronaldo said, before insisting that he was “not going to say any more on the subject.”
There is much speculation about the player’s anger with the club he joined in 2009 and has scored 150 goals for. Some reports linked the matter to coach Jose Mourinho's exclusion of his teammate Kaka from the squad.
However, striker Gonzalo Higuain denied Ronaldo was sad, asserting that he was “fine.”
“He scored two goals so I believe that he is happy," said Higuain. "My teammates and I all see him well."
The Ballon d'Or holder also denied he was angry because Barcelona's Andres Iniesta beat him to this year's players' award on Friday.
"It has nothing to do with it," Ronaldo said. "Iniesta deserved it."
“I'm now only thinking about Portugal and that's it. I'm not going to talk about the matter further. The club knows what's going on with me," he concluded.
