A delegation from Qatar's Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy recently held a knowledge transfer event with Moroccan officials in Marrakech, offering insights from their successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The event, held alongside the Qatar Africa Business Forum as part of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Year of Culture, provided a platform to share key learnings and challenges faced by Qatar in organizing the tournament.
Moroccan attendees included representatives from the 2030 bid team, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, various government ministries, and key stakeholders involved in preparing for the upcoming World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal.
Ghanim Al Kuwari, Deputy Director General for Technical Services, emphasized Qatar's commitment to sharing its expertise with the region. "Ever since we bid for the FIFA World Cup, we have envisioned it as a tournament for Qatar, the Arab world and the entire Middle East and North Africa region," he said. "We are proud that in 2022, we were able to showcase the best of our culture and people to the world, and our vision extends to ensuring that Arab and Muslim countries benefit from our experience."
Mouad Hajji, General Coordinator of the Morocco 2030 Bid Team, expressed gratitude for Qatar's support. "We benefitted tremendously from learning about how Qatar was able to organize the event with such great success," he remarked. "We look forward to continued and fruitful cooperation."
The 2030 World Cup will mark the first time the tournament is held in North Africa and the second time in the Arab world. Qatar's 2022 World Cup was widely praised for its compact nature, record-breaking attendance, and unique cultural experiences, setting a new standard for future hosts.
