Emery was keen for reinforcements after the departure of Colombian striker Jhon Duran to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr last week for a reported £64 million ($79 million).
Dutch forward Donyell Malen also joined the Birmingham-based club earlier in the window from Borussia Dortmund.
Villa have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League on their return to European football's elite competition for the first time since 1982-83.
