Tunisia topped the group with six points to secure a place in the last 16, while Egypt finished fourth with 4 points.

The North African side outplayed Egypt in all scoring categories, winning 3-0 (25-19, 25-18, and 25-22).

The victory moved Tunisia up seven places in the FIVB World Ranking to 33rd, while Egypt dropped six spots to 28th.

“We are very happy, because from the beginning of the World Championship we knew we needed to win this match against Egypt — which is also an African derby — in order to qualify,” Tunisia’s Ben Romdhane told VBTV.

“I want to thank all my teammates. Many of them are young and it’s their first World Championship, so I want to thank them, the staff, and all the fans here,” he said.

Egypt had started their campaign strongly with a surprise 3-1 win over Asian powerhouse Iran, but then lost 3-1 to hosts Philippines before suffering the decisive defeat to Tunisia.
