Italian club fined over chants about dead player

AP, Tuesday 23 Oct 2012

A second-division Italian soccer team has been fined $65,000 after its fans made offensive chants about an opposing player who died during a match last season

The chants occurred during Hellas Verona's 2-0 win at Livorno on Saturday. Verona apologized and attempted to disassociate itself from the conduct of those ''ultra'' fans.

Piermario Morosini of Livorno collapsed and died of a heart attack during Livorno's Serie B match at Pescara in April. Tests revealed he had an inherited heart disease. All matches in the top divisions were suspended on the weekend of his death.
