Roma to decide Ranieri future in coming hours

Roma will decided whether or not to fire coach Claudio Ranieri in the next 24 hours, club director Gianpaolo Montali said on Sunday

Roma squandered a 3-0 lead away to Genoa earlier in the day, conceding four second half goals to crash to a fourth successive defeat.

Fans had already launched violent protests against the team during the week following the 3-2 home defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

"We will take a pause to reflect. We need to carefully evaluate things but everything will be decided between tonight and tomorrow (Monday)," said Montali.

"For now Ranieri is Roma's coach. Leave us to reflect, this is not the time to make a gut reaction."
Montali also refuted rumours that the club had allowed players to get away with being disrespectful to Ranieri.

"And who says those players weren't fined," retorted Montali.

"Today there was nothing to reproach the players for over their commitment and effort."

Roma remain eighth in Serie A but now trail bitter city rivals Lazio in the crucial fourth spot by nine points
