After the 2-2 draw with Espanyol and losing another two points, Spain's La Liga title seems impossible as the points gap with foes Barcelona widen to 13.
"The league title seems almost impossible," Mourinho was quoted as saying on the Club’s official website after the game.
The Whites are third in the Spain La Liga teams’ table with 36 points, 13 behind arch-rivals and leaders Barcelona after 16 matchdays.
"We are talking about 13 - and in December that is a lot," the Real Madrid boss added.
"What we have to do is play every match to win without worrying about whether we are first, second or third or whether our direct rivals won or lost,"
"If we improve in the league it will help us improve in the cup and the Champions League,
"If we want to have a chance in these two competitions we have to be stronger," Mourinho confirmed.
The 49-year-old tactician didn’t forget to praise the performance of his team’s star, Cristiano Ronaldo, throughout the game.
"Cristiano Ronaldo had a great match and with so many people missing in attack he took responsibility and responded well," Mourinho concluded.
