Schalke win game halted by ref attacked

The German Football Federation (DFB) on Tuesday awarded a 2-0 victory to Schalke 04 following last week's Bundesliga game against St Pauli which was abandoned after an attack on the assistant referee

The DFB disciplinary commission judged that St Pauli lost Friday's match "because the club is responsible for their spectators and the interruption to the match was their fault".

With just a minute left and Schalke leading 2-0, assistant referee Thorsten Schiffner was struck in the upper back by a cup full of beer and referee Deniz Aytekin abandoned the game soon after.

Schalke had been on their way to their tenth win of the season before the incident after goals from Spanish striker Raul (26) and German midfielder Julian Draxler (66).

The official concerned had disallowed a goal on the hour mark which would have given St Pauli the equaliser for 1-1 with a controversial off-side ruling.
