Barcelona's forward Lionel Messi and Real Madrid defender Pepe had a heated exchange of words during Sunday's clasico, Spanish paper Sport reported on Tuesday.

The two players were spotted on Camera covering their mouths during the game and, according to Catalan daily Sport, Pepe accused Messi of being "scared of playing him".

"Against me you always s*** yourself," Pepe reportedly told Messi during the action-packed game.

"What are you talking about? I always score against you!" Messi replied.

The four-time Ballon d'or winner had the upper hand during the game, scoring a hat-trick as Barcelona claimed a thrilling 4-3 over arch-rivals Real Madrid to throw the title race wide open.
