Top-ranked Serena Williams breezed into the Madrid Open third round with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Shuai Peng on Wednesday.
Williams broke her Chinese opponent three times for a 14th straight victory on the clay of the Magic Box tennis center, where the top-seeded American is looking to defend her title.
On the men's side, Tomas Berdych moved to a perfect 11-0 against Kevin Anderson following his 6-1, 6-4 win over the South African.
''I always like to play here,'' the sixth-seeded Czech said. ''There was also the aspect of the many matches I've played with Kevin and all of them went my way.''
Top-ranked Rafael Nadal began his title defense later against Juan Monaco.
