The crucial moment came in the second set, when Sweden surged from four points behind to take four consecutive points and the tiebreaker.
Serbia never recovered, and in the third set missed four opportunities to convert a break point. At one point Djokovic demonstrated his frustration by whacking the net with his racket.
Djokovic entered the match at the last minute after having withdrawn from singles on Friday due to a knee injury. He played Saturday's match with tape wound beneath his left knee.
Serbia hopes to wrap up the quarterfinal in the reverse singles on Sunday, which starts with Janko Tipsarevic playing Michael Ryderstedt.
