Marwan El-Shorbagy needed just 45 minutes to beat Abouelghar 11/6, 11/6 and 11/8 to clinch World Junior Individual Squash Championship title.

“I’m so happy right now – I’ve been dreaming of this since I was 10, and when I saw my brother getting his first title in Switzerland, I wanted so much to win too,” El-Shorbagy was quoted as saying on squashsite.co.uk at the presentation ceremony.

The 17-year-old revealed that this game was the toughest match he played as he and Abouelghar are best friends.

“This was a very difficult match mentally, as Mohamed and myself are best friends, and we know each other’s game so well, we’ve been playing each other since we were 10,” he added.

“I have one more year to year to go, and next year will be in Egypt, so I want to win it, because it will be in my own country. But it will be hard” the Junior world champion said.

Marwan El-Shorbagy is the youngest brother of Egyptian rising squash star Mohamed, who is ranked nine in the world, and won the title for the second time.

The El-Shorbagys are the first brothers in the sport’s history to win world individual titles.

On the other hand, Abouelghar blamed his lack of energy and fitness that caused him to lose the game against El-Shorbagy.

“I’m disappointed with the result of the match, but not with this tournament,” Abouelghar said during the presentation ceremony.

“I didn’t perform at my best today, I was really tired from yesterday, I didn’t have much left in the tank when I started.” He added

“I want to congratulate Marwan, he is a great player. But I’ll be back next year!” Abouelghar finished.
