Ashour, Mosaad, Shabana and Darwish reach British Grand Prix quarter finals in Manchester

Ramy Ashour

In his quest to recover the world’s top seed, former world champion Ramy Ashour (23 years old) is seeking the Manchester 2011 trophy to bridge the 50-point gap with world number-one Nick Matthew.

The Englishman dethroned Ashour in January of this year, but the latter has been in excellent form recently and appears ready to retrieve what once belonged to him.

The Pharaoh will play Frenchman Gregory Gaultier, world number-six, on Friday night before taking on the winner between his two compatriots, Karim Darwish and Omar Mosaad, both of whom will face off earlier the same day.

Meanwhile, four-time world champion Amr Shabana (world number 5) will be tested tonight by England’s Adrian Grant after which, if he succeeds, he will have Matthew - or fellow Englishman Peter Barker - in his path.
