Egyptian squash stars Ramy Ashour and Fares Dessouky reached the third round of the 2016 World Championship in Cairo after convincing wins on Saturday while Omar Mosaad suffered a stunning exit.  

World number 8 Ramy Ashour needed 31 minutes to beat world number 24 Stephen Coppinger of South Africa 3-0 (3-11, 6-11, 8-11) in the second round to set up a third round game against world number 17 Daryl Selby of England on Monday.

"I was more relaxed in the first round, but I felt good and I think that’s natural as the tournament goes on," Ashour said after the game.

"Daryl is a fighter, he never gives up, and he has good hands, he has the English/Egyptian way of playing, so it’s hard and he plays his best when he is most tired.

"When you think he is about to give up he comes back with some crazy shots out of nowhere. I actually enjoy watching him, he has some good tricks that I like watching," Ashour added.

Fares Dessouky, world number 16, defeated Frenchman Gregoire Marche, who is 10 places below him in the world ranking, 3-1 (11-13, 5-11, 11-8, 9-11) to go through to the next round where he will face Nafiizwan Adnan of Malaysia on Monday.

"It was a hard match, and very mentally tough. I think it was more about mental toughness today than actual tactics," Dessouky said.

"I was a bit nervous in the beginning, he was playing well and it was hard to read him. I think I managed to controlled it in the end. I think i had the right tactic and I’m pleased that I came through."

World number 33 Nafiizwan Adnan of Malaysia stunned Egyptian star Omar Mosaad, world number 3, after beating him 3-2 (6-11, 11-8, 12-10, 1-11,12-10).

On Friday, world number one Mohamed El-Shorbagy and number six Karim Abdel-Gawad also qualified for the third round following victories over Finland's Olli Tuominen and Mohamed Abouelghar at Cairo's Wadi Degla.

The third round games will be played on 30 and 31 October while the final will take place on 4 November.
