Karim Samy Abdel-Gawad has sprung a huge surprise by eliminating World number 1 Mohamed ElShorbagy from the World Championship semis to set up an all-Egyptian final clash with Ramy Ashour.

An end-to-end clash saw world number six Abdel-Gawad go behind 2-1 with 13-11, 10-12, 11-13 set results before turning on the table on ElShorbagy in the final two sets with comfortable 11-2 and 11-5 wins.

"This is the best day of my life, I'm so happy to reach the final. I'm ready for tomorrow's game and prepared mentally to face Ashour," Abdel-Gawad, who reaches his first World Championship final ever, said right after the game.

"Everybody knows who is Ramy, it is always difficult to face him, but my victory today will be a great boost ahead of the final meeting."

Earlier on the day, World number five Ramy Ashour qualified directly for the final after being given a walkover semi-final win over reigning champion Gregory Gaultier following the latter's injury.

Gaultier was supposed to take on three-time champion Ashour for a place in the competition's final on Thursday if it wasn't for an ankle injury that the Frenchman sustained following his quarter-final victory over Tarek Moemen.

The final of the 2016 World Championship, taking place at Cairo's Wadi Degla, will take place between Abdel-Gawad and Ashour on Friday.
