World number one Nick Matthew was eliminated from the Hong Kong Open in the quarterfinal on Friday after losing 3-1 to Frenchman Gregory Gaultier.
Matthew won the first game 11/7 but Gaultier, ranked fifth in the world, stormed back to win three successive games 11/9, 13/11 and 11/5.
Gaultier will face Englishman James Willstrop in the semis after the latter defeated his compatriot Peter Barker 3-0 in 27 minutes.
Two Egyptians play later in the day.
World number two Karim Darwish faces Australia’s Stewart Boswell while Amr Shabana, who is fourth in the world rankings, takes on Malaysia’s Azlan Iskandar.
