Former world number one Mohamed Elshorbagy of Egypt defeated James Willstrop of England in straight sets on Saturday to claim the World Series title in Dubai.

The 26-year-old, who has now fallen to the third place of the PSA World ranking, claimed a hard-fought win over Willstrop (12/10, 11/9 and 11/8) in 57 minutes.

It is the first World Series title for the Egyptian and his first major title since winning the British Open in 2016.

In an impressive run, Elshorbagy also ousted Germany's Simon Rosner in the semis and World number one Gregory Gaultier of France.

"I've got my hunger back," Elshorbagy said after the game.

In the women's contest, two-time world champion Nour El Sherbini lost to Laura Massaro of England 3-0 (11/8, 12/10, 11/5) in 35 minutes.
