Egypt have missed out on the opportunity to finish in the top eight of the 2019 World Handball Championship after losing to Denmark 26-20 on Monday.

The Pharaohs mounted a serious challenge to the 2016 Olympic Champions during the first half that ended 9-7 for the Europeans.

But the Danish prevailed in the second half to claim a comfortable victory 26-20 and move to the top of the Group with 8 points.

The result leaves Egypt fifth with one point gained from a draw with Hungary in the previous round and two straight defeats against Norway and Denmark in the Main round.

The six-time African champions have missed out on finishing in the top 8 – that and will now be ranked from 9th to 12th.

Egypt will face Tunisia – bottom of the group without any points - on Wednesday in their last game of the tournament.
