Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman is close to snatching a world medal at the World Swimming Championship in Gwangju, South Korea, which is taking place from 21 to 28 July.

Osman started her mission in the world tournament with 100 fly, ranking 17th in 58.43 minutes, but she still has the chance to claim a medal as she will compete 100 free and 50 fly.

Osman won Best Female Athlete from Africa at the ANOC Awards 2017 in Prague, a few months after she made national history by winning Egypt's first-ever medal at the World Championships in Budapest.

The 24-year-old won the bronze medal in the women's 50m butterfly final in Budapest in July after she achieved a time of 25.39s, claiming the country’s first-ever medal.

She also broke the African record for the event for the third time, topping her previous mark set at the semis by 0.25s.
