The Pharaohs had won their first two matches against Australia and Iran before losing four consecutive games to Brazil, Canada, Russia, and Italy.
The Volleyball World Cup comprises 12 teams: Japan, Egypt, Italy, Russia, Poland, Iran, Australia, Tunisia, USA, Canada, Brazil, and Argentina.
