The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) turned down on Wednesday Egypt's appeal concerning the ban of the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation (EWF).

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) imposed last September a two-year ban on the Egyptian Weightlifting Federation over an old doping case.

The ban relates to an incident in 2016 when seven Egyptian weightlifters failed doping tests during the 2016 Youth African Championships in Cairo.

The EWF appealed the decision last October.

"The EWF’s appeal against the decision taken by the IWF's Independent Member Federation Sanctions Panel on 12 September 2019 has been dismissed," read a statement on the CAS official website on Wednesday.

In the wake of the ban, Egyptian weightlifters will not participate in the in the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

Egypt clinched two bronze medals in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro thanks to Mohamed Ihab (77Kg) and Sara Samir (69Kg).
