Argentina and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s handball national teams arrived in Cairo Airport on Monday to take part in the 27th International Handball Federation’s Men’s World Championship, Egypt 2021, with strict precautionary measures in place.
The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the World Championship announced that the teams of Portugal, Iceland, and Belarus will also arrive late on Monday within the preparations for the World Championship.
Egypt are scheduled to host the World Championship from 13 to 31 January 2021, with 32 teams participating for the first time in the tournament's history.
"Brazil’s team will arrive on Wednesday after delaying their arrival that was scheduled for last Friday," the LOC said.
"All the participants will arrive in sequence starting from Monday until the start of the tournament on Wednesday,"
"The Cairo International Airport is on alert and ready to receive all delegations just as they have received the Japanese team earlier this month," the LOC said in their statement.
Japan's senior handball national team was the first to arrive in Cairo airport last week to participate in the World Championship.
On Sunday, Egypt made a U-turn on its decision to allow limited fan attendance at the Handball World Championship, saying the tournament would be held behind closed doors.
