Zamalek clinched the Egyptian Basketball Super League after defeating Ittihad of Alexandria 84-80 in the fifth round of the play-offs, finishing the series 3-2 for their side.
Ittihad had an overwhelming victory of 83-56 in the first game, then Zamalek claimed back-to-back wins 80-70 and 74-69 respectively, before the Alexandrian side revived their chances by winning in the fourth game 81-79, only to then lose the decisive game.
Ittihad got in the lead 29-25 after the first quarter, before Zamalek came back to end the second quarter winning 48-42, then the Alexandrian side bounced to 67-62 at the end of the third.
However, they struggled at the beginning of the fourth half, and the fourth quarter ended in a 73-73 draw.
Going into extra time, Ittihad of Alexandria seemed nervy and the players made some naive mistakes, allowing the Whites to grab 84-80 lead and claim a hard-fought win.
The Whites won a record 14th Super League title ahead of Ittihad, who have 13 titles.
