Zamalek have announced on Thursday that club icon Ahmed El-Ahmar has decided to renew his contract with the club without announcing any details concerning the new contract.

"We will still be lucky to see handball's legend Ahmed El-Ahmar wearing the club shirt," read a statement on the club's official twitter account on Thursday.

"The club is free to decide the length of the deal and the payment''

The 37-year-old announced his retirement from international duty earlier this week after leading the Pharaohs to a historic fourth place in Tokyo Olympic Games.

El-Ahmar, who rose to fame after playing in the club's youth teams, followed in the footsteps of his father Mostafa El-Ahmar, who is also a club icon.

He helped Zamalek win a total of 28 titles, including 15 continental crowns and 13 local triumphs.

With the White Knights, El-Ahmar also won the bronze medal in the Super Globe 2010, finishing as the competition's top scorer with 41 goals. He is also the Super Globe's all-time top scorer with 197 goals.

Meanwhile, Zamalek have officially announced that they have regained the service of Pharaohs’ keeper Karim Hindawi, who signed a two-year contract with the club on Thursday.

Hendawi left Zamalek in the summer of 2017 to join the Turkish club Besiktas before moving to HC Dobrogea Sud Constanța of Romania, two seasons later.

He spent the last season at the Macedonian club RK Eurofarm Pelister.

The 33-year-old produced a string of strong displays between the sticks during the last Olympic Games.
