Ahly

Egyptian giants Ahly and Zamalek will face off on Friday in the African Super Cup in Cairo with the winner representing the continent in next month's Super Globe that will take place in Saudi Arabia 5-9 October.

Zamalek won the African champions league in 2020 and were set to face Tunisian side Etoile Sportive du Sahel, winner of the African Cup of Cup winners of the same year.

After Etoile withdrawal from the Super Cup, the Confederation of African Handball opted for Ahly instead.

The latter were recently crowned champions of the 2021 African Cup of Cup winners in Morocco.

Zamalek will play the game under the coaching of Olivier Roy, the former Barcelona assistant coach, who replaced Hussein Zaki last month.

The club also regained the services of their international keeper Karim Hindawi who rejoined the White Knights from Macedonian side Eurofarm Pelister.

They also signed international playmaker Seif El-Deraa from Heliopolis and veteran right back Mohamed Bassyouni from Sporting.

The trio will join a group of stars that shone in the last Olympic Games when the Pharaohs clinched their historic fourth place finish with the likes of Yehya El-Deraa, Ahmed El-Ahmar, Hassan Walid, Omar El-Wakil and Wessam Nawar.

Zamalek have a record of six African Super Cup championships under their belt, three short of Algerian side GS Petroliers.

They are the winner of the two previous Super Cup editions, defeating Ahly on both occasions.

On the other hand, Ahly will be looking to add another victory account after winning the African Cup of Cup, last week.

Their mission will not be easy as Zamalek is a tough opponent.

Ahly's effort will depend on international keeper Mohamed Essam and Tunisia left back Oussam Jaziri.

They also signed Qatari right back Angel Hernandez from Kuwaiti side Kuwait.

The Cuban-born player who is currently representing Qatar will play with Ahly in Friday's clash before returning to his club.

Ahly have won the African Super Cup just once, in 2017, when they defeated Zamalek 29-23 in Morocco.
