Swimming: Farida Osman reaches final of 50m fly in World Champs

Egyptian swimmer Farida Osman advanced to the final of the 50m fly women’s event in 19th World Championships Budapest 2022 edging close to a third career FINA medal.

The 27-year old swimmer recorded a time of 25.46s to finish fourth in the semi-final ranking, 0.33s behind leader Sarah Sjoestroem of Sweden.

The 8 finalists will compete in the final swim on Friday 24 June at 18:02 Cairo time.

Osman has already won two World Champs bronze medals in the 50m butterfly, her favourite discipline, in Budapest 2017 and Korea 2019.

On Sunday, she broke the 100 metre butterfly African record with a time of 57.66 seconds to finish 7th in the overall ranking.

She eclipsed the record set by South Africa's Erin Gallagher in 2019 with 57.67 seconds.  

She still has one event to compete in; the 50m freestyle on Friday.
