Sherif El-Arian, the president of the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation (EMPF), told Ahram Online that Egypt is "moving in the right path," two years before the Paris Games take place.

"The progress we are making is the result of hard work and team work carried out in a harmonious working environment. We still have more to do in the coming period to achieve an Olympic medal in Paris 2024," El-Arian added. 

In the men's individual final, Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Joseph Choong of Great Britain won gold with a total 1,514 points. He became the first British to win World Championship gold since Jamie Cooke, who achieved the feat in Mexico City in 2018.

Egyptian talented junior pentathlete Mohamed El-Gendy claimed a silver medal with a total of 1,512 points.

"This is my first time to compete at the UIPM senior world championships. So, I am very happy to win silver medal," he said.

"I underwent an extremely intensive multi-training program for the five different sports to get ready for the tournament. I felt so confident that I could reach the final and achieve a medal.

"I am so delighted. I competed with my brother Ahmed in his first championship after his return following a shoulder surgery."

His elder brother, Egypt's Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Ahmed El-Gendy, finished fifth with total score of 1,499 points.

"I hope we compete side by side at the Olympic Games and step onto the podium together," Ahmed said.

 Mona Shafik, their mother, said he was proud that her sons have gone that far.

"I am thrilled to see my younger son on the podium. Ahmed was off this season because of a four-month recovery period after his shoulder surgery," she added.

Hungarian Balazs Szep took bronze with 1,507 points.

Men’s team relay

Egyptian duo Ahmed Ashraf and Islam Hamed took silver with a total 1,419 points, which marked Egypt's first medal of the tournament.

"I feel so happy, especially that we are competing on our soil. The main goal for this year is to adapt to the new format to get ready for the Olympics," Ashraf said.

South Korea's Jinhwa Jung and Woongtae Jun, individual bronze medalist at the Tokyo Games, won gold with 1,427 points while Czech duo Matous Tuma and Fillip Houska took bronze with 1,408 points.

 Women’s team relay

 Egypt's Haidy Adel Amira Kandil won gold medal with 1,298 points in the second day of the tournament.

"I was so pleased and excited. It was a good start. It is the first medal ever achieved in the Egyptian modern pentathlon history in women's senior team relay," Adel said.  

Mexico's Mariana Arceo Gutierrez and Mayan Oliver Lara took silver medal with 1,291points while South Korea's Sehee Kim and Sunwoo Kim won bronze with 1,260 points.

Women's individual result

Italian penathlete Elena Micheli won gold with a total 1,416 points while Hungarian Michelle Gulyas took silver with a total of 1,412 points.

Turkish Ilke Ozyuskel won bronze with a total 1,405 points and Egypt's Salma Abdel-Maksoud finished sixth with a total of 1,391points.
