Hamza’s glorious campaign at the World Championship ended on Wednesday with a frustrating 6-0 loss to five-time European champion Yasemin Adar of Turkey in the final of the +76 kg freestyle event, missing out on the chance to win an unprecedent gold medal in the country’s history.

Hamza reached the final at the expense of Estonian wrestler Epp Mäe after claiming a 3-2 win in the tournament’s semis on Tuesday.

Last year, Hamza became the first woman to give Egypt a World Championship medal in wrestling after winning the bronze at the Oslo edition.
