Tennis: Mayar Sherif ‘proud’ despite Madrid Open loss

Egyptian tennis player Mayar Sherif expressed her pride and happiness despite losing in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open on Tuesday. She emphasized that her remarkable performance during the tournament would lead to more success in the future.

Sherif impressive run in Madrid Open ended after losing to World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus in the quarterfinals.

The World No. 59 made headlines after defeating No. 30 Camila Giorgi and No. 5 Caroline Garcia before running into Sabalenka.

“Today, my journey in the Madrid Open has come to an end. I'm proud and happy, not only for the result but for the challenges I overcame throughout the tournament,” Mayar Sherif wrote on her Twitter account on Tuesday.

“It’s given me confidence to achieve more in what’s next.”

After her success in the Madrid Open, she is guaranteed to break into the top 50 for the first time when the latest rankings are published on May 10th.
