Tennis: Egypt's Mayar Sherif makes winning start at French Open

Egyptian tennis player Mayar Sherif kicked off her French Open campaign with a dominant performance, defeating Madison Brengle of the United States 2-0 (6-3, 6-1) in the first round of the Grand Slam tournament on Sunday.

Sherif, World number 54, needed only 63 minutes to dispatch her opponent, who is ranked 95th. 

In the next round, the 27-year-old will face on Wednesday Anastasia Potapova of Russia, who is ranked 25th in the world and advanced to the second round with a 2-0 (6-1, 6-2) victory over Taylor Townsend on Sunday.

Earlier this month, Sherif made a strong showing at the Madrid Open, where she reached the quarterfinals after impressive wins over No. 30 Camila Giorgi and No. 5 Caroline Garcia before falling to world No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka.
