Sherif, ranked world number 31, lost 2-1 to the unseeded Masarova in a closely contested match that ended in a tie-break.
After losing the first set 7-5, Sherif bounced back to win the second 6-3. The third set was a hard-fought affair for both players, but Masarova emerged victorious with a 7-6 win after a super tie-break (10-6).
While this was Sherif's first appearance at Wimbledon, she had previously played in eight Grand Slam tournaments, starting in 2020 when she was eliminated from the first round of the Roland Garros.
