The 18-year-old clocked in at 2:02:23 while Australian Bradley Woodward came in first timing 1:57.14.

Mohamdy's time was not fast enough to put him in the top 16 of swimmers who advanced to the semi-finals as he came 3.37s behind Hidekazu Takehara who finished 16th.

Mohamady's personal best in the event is 2:01.68 which he achieved in the African Championship in Tunisia in 2022

Mohamdy was Egypt's sole representative in Thursday's events at the prestigious tournament.

Egyptian swimmers Ali Khalafallah, Farida Osman, and Youssef Ramadan will be competing in the men's 50m freestyle, women's 50m butterfly, and men's 100m butterfly, respectively, on Friday.

The World Aquatics Championships are taking place from July 14-30.
