Plans for London stadium 2012
The more than half-mile (800-meter)-long wrap had been set to feature changing colors and images in what local organizers hoped would be one of the iconic images of the games. Plans were scrapped because of the seven-million-pound ($11 million) cost.
London 2012 chief executive Paul Deighton says "we have had significant interest in supplying the stadium wrap from the private sector so now is the time to start a formal tender process." Companies must register interest by Feb. 18.
Sponsors cannot brand the wrap with a name or logo since venue advertising is banned at the Olympics.
