Weightlifter Mohamed Sobhy wins Egypt fifth medal at Paris 2024 Paralympics

Egyptian weightlifting champion Mohamed Sobhy secured the silver medal in the men's 88kg weightlifting competition at the 2024 Paralympic Games on Saturday.

Sobhy successfully lifted 220 kg in his first attempt and then improved to 224 kg in his second.

However, he was unsuccessful in his third attempt to lift 230 kg.

China's Yan Panpan claimed the gold medal with a record-breaking lift of 242 kg, setting a new Paralympic record, while Ukrainian lifter Yurii Babynets took home the bronze.

This silver marks Egypt's fifth medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympics and the second silver.

The Egyptian delegation has also won two gold medals and one bronze, currently placing them 39th in the overall standings.
