The 31-year-old Pegula, the world's number 4, secured an easy 6-0, 6-4 victory in just over an hour over the 29-year-old Sherif, the world’s number 102.
The Egyptian star started the second set on a high note, jumping to a 4-1 lead before seeing Pegula restore her balance and winning the set..
Sherif competed at the US Open after recovering from a shoulder injury that had sidelined her since July.
