Athletics: Egypt’s El Gamal finishes 30th in Men’s Hammer Throw at World Championships

Egyptian athlete Mostafa El Gamal placed 30th out of 36 competitors in the men’s hammer throw at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo on Monday.

The 36-year-old failed to qualify for the final after recording a mark of 72.03 metres, finishing 16th in Group B.

The automatic qualifying standard was set at 76.50 metres, with the top 12 across both groups advancing to the final.

The biennial championships, featuring more than 1,800 athletes from around the world, run through September 21.

Earlier on Monday, Esraa Awis made history by becoming the first Egyptian to reach a final in the women’s long jump at the World Championships, ultimately finishing 11th in the final.

Meanwhile, Egypt’s sprinter Bassant Hemida is set to compete in the women’s 400 metres semi-finals on Tuesday, after placing third in her heat on Saturday.
