Koech finished in 5 minutes, 13.77 seconds, slicing 3.27 seconds off the time he set at the same meet last year.

The 29-year-old Koech has been a consistently good runner in the steeplechase over the past decade, clinching the bronze medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
