Handball: Ahly, Zamalek open 2025 IHF Men’s Club World Championship with victories

Egyptian clubs Ahly and Zamalek began their campaigns at the 2025 IHF Men’s Super Globe with wins over Sydney Uni and Handebol Taubaté, respectively, on Friday.

Ahly cruised to a dominant 41-14 victory over Australia’s Sydney Uni at the New Administrative Capital Arena in Cairo, to go top of group B.

The Egyptian champions took control early, building a 20-6 lead by halftime and continuing their dominance after the break.

Defending Champions Telekom Veszprem of Hungary will play Sydney Uni later on Saturday.

Zamalek, meanwhile, edged South and Central American champions Handebol Taubaté 26-24 to open their Group C account.

Spanish giants Barcelona will face Handebol Taubaté on Saturday.

The Cairo-based side led 13-11 at halftime and held off a second-half challenge, drawing the final 30 minutes 13-13.

Ahly will next face Telekom Veszprem on Sunday while Zamalek take on Spanish giants Barcelona on the same day.

The top three teams of the three groups advance to the semi-finals alongside the best runner-up of the three groupe.
