The medal marks Egypt’s first gold at the World Championship since 1997, when Tamer Abdel-Moneam won the (-70kg) category in Hong Kong.
A total of 10 Egyptian athletes (7 men and 3 women) are competing at the event, which runs until October 30.
The 27-year-old is one of Egypt’s top athletes, having previously won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and secured two World Championship bronze medals in 2022 (Mexico) and 2023 (Azerbaijan).
