Squash: Egypt quartet advance in World Championship

Egypt's Karim Darwish, Rami Ashour, Amr Shabana and Mohamed El-Shorbagy reach the World Championship's last eight

World number four Karim Darwish defeated English player Daryl Selby 3-1 (11-9, 13-11, 10-12, 11-9) on Tuesday to qualify for the Qatar PSA World Championships quarter-finals.

The Egyptian fought bravely against a resilient Selby to settle the game in his favour in 80 minutes.

Rami Ashour (5) also went through at the expense of his compatriot Tarek Moemen after a 3-1 win (11-13, 12-10, 11-2, 14-12).

Amr Shabana (7) joined them in the last eight after defeating Alister Walker, as the latter withdrew after 17 minutes while Tarek Momen was eliminated after slumping to a 3-0 loss to World number two Nick Matthew.

Earlier in the day, Mohamed El-Shorbagy reached the tournament's quarters following a 3-1 win over Cameron Pilley of Australia in a 56-minute contest.

In Wednesday's quarter-finals, Darwish will meet compatriot Mohamed El-Shorbagy, Ashour will play Gregory Gaultier (3) and Shabana will take on Nick Matthew.
