Denmark Queen Mary praises GEM contribution to human heritage

Queen Mary of Denmark praised on Sunday the greatness of Egyptian civilisation and the Grand Egyptian Museum’s unique contribution to enriching human heritage, during a meeting with President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo.

According to the Egyptian presidency, the Danish royal conveyed the greetings of King Frederik X to President El-Sisi, expressing her deep pride in her visit to Egypt and her participation in the GEM's opening ceremony on Saturday.

For his part, President El-Sisi expressed his appreciation for Queen Mary's participation in the GEM's inauguration ceremony, which reflects the profound historical and distinguished relations between Egypt and Denmark.

During the meeting, both sides addressed ways to strengthen bilateral ties, highlighting President El-Sisi's state visit to Denmark in December 2024, which witnessed the official declaration of elevating the level of bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.

President El-Sisi stressed the importance of building upon the outcomes of that visit to expand the scope of cooperation, particularly in the trade and investment fields, to fulfil the aspirations of both peoples for development and prosperity.

For her part, Queen Mary affirmed that her country, as the current President of the EU Council, values the advanced level reached in Egypt-EU relations.

She also highlighted the vital role Danish companies play in Egypt and looked forward to further investments in the Egyptian market.

The meeting also touched on regional issues of mutual interest. The Danish royal praised Egypt's leading role in reaching an agreement to end the war in Gaza, and lauded Egypt's initiative to convene a conference for Gaza's reconstruction this month.

According to the Egyptian presidency, President El-Sisi and Queen Mary also addressed the latest developments in Sudan.

They reiterated the imperative to strengthen efforts to stop the war, reduce the crimes committed in its context, and provide humanitarian aid as a prelude to reaching a comprehensive political settlement that ensures the stability of Sudan.
