Grand Egyptian Museum to launch timed-entry booking system starting Sunday

To improve visitor experience and enhance service quality across Egypt’s museums, the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will begin implementing a slot-entry booking system for all visitors starting Sunday, 16 November.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the new system is designed to better regulate visitor flow inside the museum, reduce congestion at peak times, and ensure smoother, safer, and more comfortable access to one of the world’s most significant cultural landmarks.

Under the new procedure, visitors will be required to reserve their tickets in advance and arrive at the time slot indicated on their bookings. Time slots can be viewed and booked through GEM’s official website, www.gem.eg, which will serve as the primary platform for managing reservations.

The Ministry further announced that from 1 December 2025, online booking will become the exclusive method for purchasing museum tickets throughout the week, including weekends and public holidays. All on-site ticket counters will halt sales until further notice to streamline entry procedures and allow adjustments to be made for the growing influx of visitors.

The GEM, widely regarded as one of the largest and most anticipated cultural projects in the region, continues to draw significant attention both locally and internationally. The introduction of the new booking system marks another step in aligning the visitor experience with global museum standards while ensuring a more organised and enjoyable visit for all.
