To mark the 69th Republic Day of India, a flag hoisting ceremony was held by Indian Ambassador Sanjay Bhattacharyya on 26 January at the Indian House in Zamalek.

Bhattacharyya hoisted the tricolour flag in the presence of members of the Indian Community and India’s friends in Egypt.

The celebrations coincide with the 70th anniversary of India’s diplomatic and historical relations with Egypt.

On Friday evening, the embassy organised India’s Republic Day reception at the Conrad Hotel in Cairo in the presence of Egyptian officials, an array of Arab and foreign ambassadors and cinema and TV stars.

The event was also attended by the Deputy Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Khaled Tharwat, actresses Elham Shahin and Dina Abdallah, as well as other guests who watched a performance by the Indian Bhangra dance group.
