The Egyptian embassy in Athens hosted a musical celebration earlier this week featuring the works of Greek-Alexandrian poet Constantine Cavafy, with an audience of many local Greeks with Egyptian connections.
Egypt’s ambassador to Greece, Mohamed Farid Mounib, noted the deep historical and human relationships that link Greece to Egypt, through the hundreds of thousands of Greeks whose origins go back to Alexandria and Cairo.
A poetic-musical quartet performed selected pieces of Cavafy’s poetry, one of Greece's greatest poets.
Cavafy (1863 – 1933) was born in Alexandria to Greek parents, and wrote poems primarily in Greek.
The guests also sang a special piece about Alexandria expressing their longing and nostalgia for the bride of the Mediterranean which still resides in their memories and hearts.
