Ambassador of Egypt to Serbia Amr Aljowaily met His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch Irinej, Archbishop of Pec, Metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovci, to discuss ways of enhancing ties between the peoples of Egypt and Serbia, benefiting from the cultural and religious heritage of the two countries.

During the meeting, Ambassador Aljowaily invited Serbian citizens to visit Egypt, particulaly the path of the Holy Family in Egypt and the ancient Egyptian monasteries near sea resorts that are well-known to Serbian tourists, such as the Monastery of St Antonius, the oldest in the world, located near Hurghada.

For his part, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej commended the excellent historical relations between Egypt and Serbia, welcoming the study of fresh means of cooperation and raising awareness on cultural heritage, including through mutual visits.

The Ambassador of Egypt in Belgrade revealed that several activities are being planned, most notably the organisation of an iconographic exhibition for a number of artists from the Department of Art at the Institute of Coptic Studies, exploring similarities with counterpart Serbian art, which enjoys a central status in the cultural heritage of Serbian society.
