Under the patronage of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE's armed forces, Al-Ahram Organisation celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan on Sunday at Al-Masa hotel in Cairo.
The celebration was attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Minister of Social Solidarity Ghada Wali, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, Minister of Culture Ines Abdel-Dayem, director of the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Mustafa El-Fiqi, editor-in-chief of Al-Ahram newspaper Alaa Thabet, journalist Sanaa El-Bessy, former prime minister Ibrahim Mahlab and former minister of culture Farouk Hosny, among many others.

“Remarkably enough, Al-Ahram’s celebration of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al-Nahyan coincides with the coming 47th National Day of the UAE, to be celebrated on 2 December,” said the prime minister.
“Human history confirms that the leaders who make a difference in the lives of their people and their nation do not leave. Sheikh Zayed, who was born a hundred years ago, is still alive in the hearts of his people. The seven emirates have achieved the unity of the state, unity of the vision and the goal, and absorbed the value of science and planning, instilling in the hearts of their citizens the seeds of work with unlimited ambition.”
“The vision of Sheikh Zayed did not stop at the borders of his native UAE, where he realised the importance of neighbourhood and regional security. He played a prominent role in establishing the Gulf Cooperation Council, hosting the first Gulf Summit in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi in 1981. He also recognised the value of the joint Arab action," continued Madbouly.
Madbouly thanked Al-Ahram Organisation for organising the ceremony which reflected Zayed’s place in the hearts of the Egyptians, and announced 2018 the “Year of Zayed”. “Perhaps many do not know that the first press interview with Sheikh Zayed was with Al-Ahram newspaper in 1968, when he was the governor of Abu Dhabi," he concluded.
Chairman of the Al-Ahram board Abdel-Mohsen Salama said that this celebration is the attempt of the Egyptian people and Al-Ahram Organisation to express their respect to the character of Sheikh Zayed and his achievements.
For his part, the UAE’s ambassador Gomaa Mubarak pointed that Sheikh Zayed always believed that the stability of Egypt and its attaining power lead to the stability of the entire Arab world.
