At the ceremony organised by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on the occasion of the end of term of Belarusian Ambassador to Cairo Sergei Rachkov, the ambassador said that his love for Egypt was behind the great mutual and unprecedented achievements in the history of relations between the two countries.

Present at the Egyptian Foreign Ministry celebration were Ambassador Amr Ramadan, assistant foreign minister for European affairs, Ambassador Ismail Khayrat, assistant foreign minister for financial, administrative and General Bureau affairs, Ambassador Hatem Tag El-Din, assistant foreign minister for protocol, and Ambassador Nahla Al-Zawahry, deputy assistant foreign minister for Europe, Eastern and Southern countries.

Rachkov stressed that the state of love and understanding that has prevailed during his tenure in Egypt since 2013 contributed directly to the accomplishment of these achievements, some of which were unprecedented, where the president of Belarus visited Egypt for the first time and his Egyptian counterpart paid a visit to Belarus and signed 25 agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding and Joint Action Programmes (roadmap).

“The volume of trade exchange increased by 75 percent, and so did the visits of the ministers of trade, industry, agriculture, telecommunications and information, natural resources, environment protection and military production. For the first time, the Speaker of the Egyptian House of Representatives visited, and joint projects were implemented in the fields of the industry, agriculture, education and security,” he pointed out.

That is in addition to signing joint cooperation contracts for the manufacturing of trucks, diesel engines, tractors, loaders, heavy equipment, and agricultural equipment and the establishment of cooperation councils in the field of military, technical and security cooperation, Rachkov added.

“And in the field of education, for the first time, both countries agreed on the establishment of a joint engineering faculty between the Belarusian National University of Technology and Al-Tebin Institute for Metallurgical Studies in Helwan. The rate of tourism to Egypt increased as well.”

For his part, Fathi Toughan, who was behind the idea of the joint engineering faculty project, presented a memorial gift from Al-Tebin Institute to Ambassador Rachkov.

President of the Arab Union of Soviet and Russian University Graduates Sherif Gad also granted the society’s shield to the ambassador, stressing that his regular presence in the Egyptian cultural activities confirmed his passion for Egypt and the Egyptian arts.

Rachkov was honoured by the President of Belarus in 2019 and received the Order of Honour from the Council of Ministers of Belarus, and the Browns International Foundation of America has included his biography on its page among the famous bankers and international financial executives.
