Minister of Culture Ines Abdel-Dayem visited the National Museum in Belgrade on Sunday, accompanied by Ambassador of Egypt to Serbia Amr Aljowaily, and Bojana Borić Brešković, director of the museum.

The director of the museum gave a presentation on the museum’s holdings.

Abdel-Dayem praised the museum's display and its holdings, pointing to the closeness between the art in Egypt and Serbia.

"Exhibitions and museums are an essential component in the history of the two countries," she said.

She also stressed the importance of the joint cooperation in the field of exhibitions and museums as a vital component of the memory and history of the two countries, that helps in raising collective awareness.

Abdel-Dayem stressed the need to activate and increase the artistic activities featured at the theatre of the museum, which hosted Egypt's last celebrations of the July Revolution.

Brešković expressed her contentment with this visit, which marks the beginning of cooperation between the two countries in the field of museums.

She stressed that Egypt is a country of culture, history and art, pointing to the current study of partnership agreements to exchange experiences with Egypt in the field of exhibitions and museums, specifically in the restoration and protection of antiquities through the cooperation with specialised cultural organisations in Egypt and Serbia.

The National Museum of Serbia is the largest and oldest museum in Belgrade. The museum was established in 1844. It moved into the present building in 1950. Since its founding, the museum's collection has grown to over 400,000 objects, including many foreign masterpieces.
