Students at Oasis International School organized OISMUN - an annual model United Nations held aiming to provide a platform for dialogue on global issues, helping develop internationally-minded citizens.

This year, in its 12th edition, a record 494 participants from 38 schools in Cairo participated in the event.

The plenary session topic was restructuring veto powers in the United Nations.

Meanwhile, the closing ceremony of this year’s conference took place in the Salaeddin Citadel on 31 October. 

The conference was divided into seven committees in English and three in French.

Each committee debated certain topics, and all topics revolve around a central theme, which this year was “Seeking global stability and equality through the fulfillment of Sustainable Development Goals”. 

The topics discussed were:

The International Court of Justice: Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Croatia vs Serbia); the Security Council: Rebuilding security and combatting terrorism in the MENA region, and the Kurdish crisis; the Human Rights Council: Arbitrary deprivation of nationality and stateless people, and extrajudicial killings and excessive use of force by security officers.

Economic and Social Council: The impact of methods and usage of artificial intelligence on non-developed countries, and integrating sustainable development into post-conflict reconstruction; the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime: Criminal justice system treatment and care of people with drug use disorders, and criminal justice system responses to violence against women.

The General Assembly Fourth Committee (special political and decolonisation committee): The territorial dispute over Western Sahara, and the Kashmir conflict; the General Assembly Sixth Committee (legal): The legal responsibilities of correctional institutions to criminals, and the criminal accountability of political leaders.

The school also hosts an annual model Arab League (OISMAL) conference in Arabic.
